Cape Town
- visit in a township
A
sad chapter of the south-african history is the Apartheid. Also nowadays the
townships are a viewable sign of the former Apartheid regime. Even though this
time is officially over, you can see the effects of this time inside the
townships.
You
can book a tour through the townships at several travel agencies. I can
recommend the booking with the Uxolo
Network. This is a good opportunity to see more of the townships than on
your transfer from the airport to your accomodation on both sides of the
motorway. Don't let yourself be fooled of the situation in the township you will
visit, because these township i definetly not the worst township in Cape Town.
There are a lot of worse townships in some areas.
The
new south-african government initiated a programm of the building of new houses.
The aim of this program is to replace the old houses build by sheet plates with
well built stone houses. Unfortunately the program is slower than the plan like
so many other programs. The main reason is here the chronically shortness of
money like for many other topics.
Nevertheless it is remarkable for the european visitor that there are inside the townships so many gladsome and happy people. Most of the people who lived inside the townships during the Apartheid won't go out of this areas after the end of this regime. The main reason is that there is so much cordiality and cooperativeness. It will be not so easy to find such a companionship outside the townships. A viewable sign of this are the many children, who will follow you at your visit through the township. They are very proud if you want to take a picture of they. And they want to look at the result of your picture on the monitor on the backside of your new digital camera. They are very disappointed when you explain that your camera is an older modell without a monitor.
Don't pass the opportunity to become acquainted with the real life of the black South-Africans.
