Ajman
Ajman is the smallest Emirate of the UAE. It covers only 259 km2; this is just 0,33% of the entire UAE. 215.000 people are living here, mainly in Ajman City and in two small enclaves in the Hajar mountains. Otherwise Ajman is completely surrounded by Sharjah.
Ajman
has no oil reserves and therefore had a different development than Abu Dhabi or
Dubai. You can find a lot more industry here, e.g. the biggest and most famous
ship yard for speed boats.
It is quite difficult to see the border
between Sharjah and Ajman. Both cities merge nearly completely. Most of the
residents work either in Sharjah or even in Dubai. The
advantages compared to live in these Emirates is that you can have some alcohol
here (what is not possible in Sharjah) and the rents are much lower than in
Dubai.
There is not much to see in Ajman. There is a small fort, in which nowadays the Ajman Museum has its exhibitions. With the Kempinski Ajman you find one of the finest hotels of the UAE here.
