Ras al Khaimah

Hajar-BergeRas al Khaimah is the northern-most Emirate of the UAE and has a border with Oman at the northern end. There you come to the Omani exclave Mussandam, a beautiful peninsula with fjords like in Norway but with nicer temperatures.

It covers an area of 1.680 km2 and has 187.000 residents.

Ras al Khaimah is one of the most diversified Emirates. Here you can find lonely beaches, but also the high Hajar mountains, a mountain range that is located from the northern-most point of the Arabian peninsula at the Straight of Hormus (Oman) through Ras al Khaimah down to the eastern part of Oman. Here the highest mountain of the UAE is located (sometimes the Jebel Hafeet is mentioned the highest mountain, but that's wrong).

In the winter there is a lot of rainfall, which is stored in a lot of reservoirs. GrabbautenThat is one of the reason why Ras al Khaimah has quite a lot of agriculture. There are no oil reserves and therefore also fishing is one very important economy. In the last decade some industry was established, namely a famous cement and ceramic company (RAK Ceramics). You find their products all over the UAE.

In recent times there was the plan established to develop the area around Ras al Khaimah City. They want to build some hotels and residential areas around the natural creek in RAK.

Additionally there is an international airport, but there is at the moment only one scheduled international flight per wee (to Russia). Let's see how it will go further.
